Early Access to W2s and 1099s Inside Your Online IRS Account

The online IRS accounts now have a NEW Section available: Information Return Documents

The following are some types of Information Return Documents:

• W2

• 1099-NEC

• 1099-R

• 1099-B

• 1099-G

• 1099-INT

• 1099-K

• W2-G

• 1099-C

• 1099-MISC

The IRS just started offering this service, and they've got a few disclaimers about what you may or may not find in your online IRS account:

• They update this section weekly.

• You may get the form from the company before or after it shows up in this section.

• The forms are not provided by the IRS. They are only displaying the information they receive from the companies or government departments who issued the forms.

• They remind you that you are still responsible for reporting all your income even if the tax form does not show up in this section.

• This is still in the early stages, so it's possible there may be technical issues. I had a client whose 2024 - 1099-NEC from Instacart showed up in this section BUT it didn't have any amounts in the boxes like the income. Perhaps it will show up later because they also posted a Partial Outage on the website inside the online IRS account.
